Weekend

I was just out taking a walk - my first exercise in as long as I can remember - and was also trying to come up with strategies for the weekend. I'm spending it with my parents, who are the folks I learned my less-than-wonderful eating and drinking habits from. It seems that every time I am with them, I end up imbibing much more than I plan to, and our entertainment centers around meals and alcoholic beverages.

  1. I am glad you went out for a walk! I know what you mean about eating/drinking. I live with a functioning alcoholic who isn't currently employed! I have gone 2 days w/o a drink. You can do it. You deserve to be happy and healthy. For me, it is usually easier NOT to imbibe than to moderate. GOOD LUCK!

  2. If you can't avoid, then at least set a goal (admittedly, i have been trying to do that and have failed in little ways...but at least I am trying!!)
I took another new class at the gym this morning and it was really great..but then i did my weekly self weigh-in and i have lost ZERO L.B.s after all my stress in cutting calories. Depressing, but I'm still committed.
Tonight, dinner at friends' house; luckily, the woman is a non-steak eater, so I get to opt out on the steak, too, but the wine options are going to be dangerous. My plan is to volunteer to be designated driver. We'll see how that goes.
Good luck with the fams today, ladies!!

  3. M- What types of classes are you taking? If it is mostly strength, you won't lose weight initially, you'll lose inches. I suggest doing an interval class ( i.e. bootcamp) that combines strength and cardio. Cardio burns fat, strength builds muscle. Muscle burns more calories when you are at rest. If you take a combo class ( or incorporate both types of exercise if you are working out alone) you will get the most bang for your buck and will most likely see the scale move AND your jeans fit better!!

  4. I am doing some strength, and some combo classes...like today is just very active weights, but wednesdays and saturdays it's a combo. I think you are right, though, in that on my days off I need to ratchet up the cardio! we shall see. my 3.5 glasses of wine last night have got to get made up for!!!
